When it comes to online marketing books there are hundreds out there. Many rehash the same topics but in a slightly different way. However there are a couple of books that stand above the fold and that you can bet any marketer worth his salt has read.

One of those books is The New Rules of Marketing and PR by David Scott. Released in 2007, the New Rules of Marketing and PR was the first book to spell out how marketing has changed, and what marketers would have to do to adapt. The book launched a series called 'The New Rules of Social Media Series' which has continued that trend and the latest book in the series is 'Content Rules'.

This book goes into what type of content a business owner can create to drive traffic and build buzz and includes:

Planning is important too. You need to have a content plan, similar to an editor for a newspaper, of what you will put out not just this week or next, but the month after that too. The book deals with coming up with ideas for content that will interest your target audience, as well as how to distribute the content and essence of those ideas across your 'content mix'.

Finally the book finishes with some case studies of companies that have implemented the content strategy to their organization and have obtained results from it, and actually encourages you to steal the ideas that have worked for these companies. In fact the book even guides you through it!

Content marketing is all ready becoming very important. The old interruption marketing strategy of television is not going to be effective much longer. People are going to the internet to search for information and if your website can provide the answers to their buying questions you can be front and center for when they make the decision to buy.
