Considering Comfort And Design When Choosing A Laptop Bag - By: Victor Epand

Laptop bags and cases come in all sorts of shapes, colours, sizes and styles, but how much time and thought goes into choosing one? A great many people simply accept the free one, or the reduced one, that is often provided by the retailer of the laptop, and whilst this may be a reasonable laptop bag, it is unlikely to suit everyone's needs. It is therefore very important that you take the time to think carefully about how you use your laptop, and what features or accessories will prove to be useful and valuable when choosing a laptop bag or case.

For example, a number of people take their laptops with them onto planes, and this often means carrying it around with your other luggage. This can prove cumbersome, but often it is considered too dangerous to simply lie the laptop bag on the trolley with your other luggage. For this reason most people carry their laptop on their shoulder. This represents a real problem, because laptops today are generally quite heavy and bulky, and carrying such a heavy bulky object around on your shoulder can be quite uncomfortable, and likely to cause you inconvenience.

To combat this problem, a number of laptop bags now have a bottomless pocket or flap built onto one of the sides, allowing you to slide the entire laptop bag down over the handles of the trolley. In this way your laptop bag is entirely safe, so long as you have hold of the trolley handle yourself, and at the same time relieves you of the duty of carrying a large, heavy weight around on one shoulder.

This is also related to the whole idea of ergonomically designed bags, and whilst no laptop bag is going to be able to reduce the physical weight or size of your laptop and various accessories, some laptops can prove very much more comfortable to wear than others. If the strap is too thin, it can often cut into your shoulder, proving quite painful. Some laptop bags have built in protectors, which are soft padded sections that can be moved up and down the handle, so that this provides a soft comfortable pad between the laptop bag and your shoulder. There are even some laptop bags than can be worn as backpacks, although it is of course very important to make sure that these bags close securely, preferably with a lock of some kind.

Another aspect to consider when buying a laptop bag is what other accessories and items you might wish to carry with you. Your mobile phone is one possibility, but you will not want this to be kept in the main compartment with your laptop. Instead it is likely that you will want a separate pocket that is a suitable size for your mobile so that it can be accessed quickly and easily if needed. Also, consider keys, coins, a wallet, pens, paper and other bits and pieces. All of these pockets should be reasonably secure, and not easily opened by someone walking past.
