Confused About Nutritional Supplements? - By: Aijia Pelshe

Confusion continues to overshadow our choice of proper nutritional supplements. We have such a wide variety of vitamins and food supplements, however, people are just as confused as they were 10 years ago.

How can we figure out what is best for us? Up until a few years ago, I was content with taking a One-a -Day multi-vitamin. Sometimes, I didn't have energy, but I attributed it to lack of sleep or not eating properly. Occasionally, my immune system was not up to par and I was coming down with colds and infections.

After many years of working in the stressful legal and corporate environment, I decided to work from home. I sold natural vitamins and food supplements. All of the products were deemed to be without synthetics, chemicals or fillers. In order for me to sell them, I had to familiarize myself with all of the products, ailments, diseases, and afflictions. This equipped me with the sales acumen to "up-sell" additional products.

To insure that I myself would never have to suffer from heart disease, joint pain, diabetes, intestinal worms, cancer, high blood pressure, hot flashes, depression, bone loss, or whatever else that may be lurking around the corner, I took most of the products offered by the company. Now, don't get me wrong. I loved the products! I had the opportunity to purchase them at wholesale rates, so I practiced what I preached. "No price is too high for good health." Sure, I felt great with a lot more energy. I did not come down with a cold or the flue for a year. I felt like I was a walking testimonial for good health. At the same time, I was spending hundreds of dollars per month.

Upon reviewing the actual ingredients of each product, I noticed that several had very similar ingredients with minute variations, yet they were being advertised for different remedies. I guess the marketing objective is to sell as many bottles as possible of product A, B, or C, even if they contain many of the same ingredients. Just rename it, repackage it and roll it out as a new product. This appears to be the prevailing method of most of the vitamin distributors.

A gravely ill customer called me to place an order. Suddenly I heard the woman gagging for air due to an obstruction in her trachea. Later, when I called her back, I found out from her nurse that she was in process of swallowing pills and they got stuck. All she wanted was to order a bottle of our "magic" capsules. Many of my customers told me that they had shelves, drawers and cabinets full of vitamins from different distributors, yet they kept buying. They no longer know what works or what they need. What is the next miracle cure? Also, many of them are trying to get off pharmaceutical and (or)Statin drugs. Maybe a new supplement gives them a sense of hope and control over their health.

Recently, I began to question what I was ingesting and started looking for an alternative. There should be a better way than having to swallow a handful of pills every day.
