In many cases you are not able to get help from home inspectors. You can conduct your own home inspection before purchasing it with convenience. You just need to be familiar with some of the basics things about inspecting a home lest you will have to spend heavy amounts on repairing work as well. Following are given the directions you need to follow while conducting inspection yourself.

Directions for Exterior Inspection

1. Starting from the roof of the home, make sure that the roof is perfectly leveled and there is no sagging. Shingles should be well placed and flat without broken edges and holes. Later, examine the gutters and downspouts thoroughly. All should be in perfect condition to perform their duties.

2. Chimney is another part to examine carefully. No bricks or mortar should be loose. The chimney should be in upright position (straight throughout its length).

3. Inspect the sidewalls carefully. Walls should be well plastered without any signs of wear and tear. If the exterior sidewalls have stone or bricks composition, look for any loose or missing bricks or stones.

4. Check the exterior doors. Whatever the material they made of, each door should be well shaped with solid weatherstripping. Open and close the doors to check if there is any hardness or not.

5. In the end inspect the foundation. This is a crucial part of inspection. Inspect the foundation and adjacent parts carefully. Find any signs of damage, cracks or whitish substance. This indicates the leak.

Directions for Interior Inspection

1. Start the interior inspection from the windows. Inspect all the windows and check by opening and closing them. Check the locks and more importantly that all the windows are properly caulked.

2. Next is to inspect the flooring, be cautious about the sloping of the floor. It is sometimes a part of normal arrangement, but if you find more than enough that would be a serious problem might be with foundation. Look for cracks, broken tiles or any other damage to floor carpeting.

3. Inspect the ceiling and look for any signs of marks. Marks there will suggest there is a leakage. Check the walls and carefully, try to locate any signs of repairing. If you find any part which is not smooth ask for details.

4. Move on to the kitchen and thoroughly inspect the entire kitchen. All the cabinets, countertop sink and other appliances should be in good working conditions. Carefully check the cabinets whether they are new or old enough to be replaced soon. Check the pipes under the sink for any leakage sings. Use flashlight for better view.

5. Examine the bathrooms. Check whether all the taps or faucets, showers are working properly or not. Check the bath tub and wash basin etc to make sure that everything is in good condition.

6. In the end, inspect heating, air conditioning and all the electrical appliances. Make sure that all the appliances, heating and cooling system are in proper working condition. If required, check when the systems have last been upgraded.
