These days, the range of sheds on offer is impressive. Demand among consumers for innovative designs that suit their gardens and requirements perfectly has seen a proliferation of different creations. Of course, there are also plenty of other outbuildings available, such as garden offices.

A competition has even been launched to find the best shed. The contest, which takes place annually and has been running for a number of years, will conclude on July 4th, WalesOnline reports.

The winner will receive £1,000 in cash from Cuprinol, as well as woodcare products. Already, more than 1,400 entrants have been registered, including a shed that incorporates a diner. This is based in Neath, which is located seven miles east, north-east of Swansea in south Wales.

Other unusual sheds to feature in the competition include garden offices, so-called Tardis constructions and creations that feature pubs in them. Also, buildings designed especially to house lawn mowers in have been entered.

Commenting on the contest, industry veteran Uncle Wilco, who runs shedblog.co.uk, said: "Over the last few years we have had quirky sheds winning. In 2007, there was a Roman temple and last year we had a shed converted into a pirate ship, so quirky ones seem to be popular."

The demand for novel ways of utilising garden space like this does not show any sign of falling. Indeed, as many people are now reluctant to move properties because of the problems in the housing market, a considerable number of homeowners are investigating ways to make their current residences more practical.

Utilising outdoor space can be one of the most effective ways to achieve this. Therefore, interest in outbuildings, including those designed to store equipment and those that feature offices, may rise yet further over coming months, particularly as the weather continues to improve over the summer.
