Generic drugs are a cheaper substitute to branded medicines. Individuals can deal with their recession and treatment price problems by taking generic prescription drugs. Though their prices are less expensive, generics still have parallel features as their branded alternative. It’s not legal for a generic drug to use different active ingredients from their branded equivalent.

There’s a huge cost difference between generic and brand name drugs. The average per cost amount for Lipitor is 90 dollars. For its generic version, the average per price dose is 2 dollars.

Consumer Reports reports that generic medicines are just duplicates of drugs with expired copyrights. Copyrights typically remain for about ten to 14 years. After this period, other companies have the permission to reproduce the drug. Thus, generics have the same efficacy and use as the branded versions.

What’s the Problem?
If generic drugs work just the same as branded medicines, why do individuals still believe the opposite? Even after the patent has ended, the branded version continues to sell their version. The brand name medicine is sold alongside the generic alternative. Because individuals see both versions at the same time, they conclude one is more established than the other. Buyers faithful to the name will obviously go for what they already know.

Generic medicines also appear different from their branded counterpart. Buyers are usually averse to a medicine they are unfamiliar with. The branded version has obviously established a name for itself, using up much time and money on establishing their individuality to the customer. The notion of a medicine with a specific color or shape has been implanted in people’s minds, making a variation appear strange and unreliable.

After a physician prescribes treatment, ask him/her if there is a generic counterpart. Though a pharmacist can give a generic alternative to the doctor’s brand name medicine, they’ll still have to ask you first. Talk to your physician first to understand what your choices are. The doctor will talk to you if taking a generic or brand-name medicine would be advisable for your condition.

The Providence Health Plans’ site reports that generic drugs are included in insurance or less expensive copayment deals. They’re also administered for therapy drug classes. The website states that generics guarantee the similar quality, performance, and safety as their branded alternative.
