The term compact flash has entered the daily use vocabulary of many people with the increasing popularity of devices making use of this technology. The best part of these devices is that they are non-volatile in nature and that if the power supply is disrupted during execution of data, the progress is not lost and you can resume working in some time. Also, they are solid state devices and are very robust in nature as far as handling shocks and stresses is concerned. In terms of power consumption, they consume only 5 per cent of the total power otherwise consumed by small disk drives. With the revolution in field of technology implementation, the compact flash interface has begun getting popular as an interface for many input output devices as well. Its increasing zone of applications can be judged from the examples of Ethernet, digital cameras, modems, magnetic stripe readers etc.
