Come See Kenya, Walking All the Way! - By: Tony Maniscalco

There's no doubt that many people would love to visit Kenya. Walking however, may not immediately seem like an obvious way to do it. Let's see if we can convince you otherwise!

Why Kenya?

Kenya is blessed with a variety of natural wonders. It has magnificent beaches, a superb coastline and, of course, abundant wildlife. It is also home to an incredible variety of people that are always only too happy to give you the opportunity to see something of the real Africa. Inevitably, when thinking of Kenya, the mind tends to drift to images of large animals and wildlife reserves. It is worth noting however, that the country offers the opportunity to see a huge range of other animals too - including a vast number of bird species that you may find it difficult to see elsewhere.

Why walk?

If you are visiting Kenya, walking holidays offer an unparalleled opportunity to really experience the country and its people. If you have ever sat in a coach or Land Rover and watched things flash past you at 30 mph, whilst desperately tried to photograph them, you'll understand the sentiment even more. In fact, many of Kenya’s prize attractions are far more easily accessed on foot than by vehicle. You may also find that walking around will allow you to feel much more a part of the sights you are seeing and rather less like a 21st century intrusion.
The walk itself

Of course, many people like to feel secure and confident when they are exploring a different country and that's why guided walks may be the best way to do it. In Kenya, walking holidays are often conducted on the basis of guided walks where you are in the company of an expert local tour leader who will ensure not only that you do not get lost but that you don't miss any of the truly amazing sights. But, don't worry - Kenya walking holidays are not about forced marches through blistering midday suns or trying to hack your way through the undergrowth as you go! The guided walks are usually based around various centres where you will have modern accommodation providing the best standards of comfort. They will be used as your start points for the day’s explorations. You also don't have to worry about needing nine months intensive physical training before you arrive. The guided walks are constructed to suit all ages and levels of fitness - so you won't be expected to do more than you are capable of, or comfortable with.

What's to see?

It's hard to know where to start. If you like to see local culture combined with large animals then a visit to the Masai Mara is a must. The local Masai people have a proud cultural tradition that they love sharing with visitors, and you may find the towns and villages charming. You can also combine this with the chance to drive through areas of the wildlife park. You can walk around places like Crater Lake in the Rift Valley reserve, where you will get the chance to see an incredible number of wild birds. If you fancy a break from the grandeur of nature, you can also walk around one of Kenya’s tea plantations to see just how your cuppa is produced. That's to say nothing of the beaches!

Kenya walking holidays can be arranged on a set itinerary basis. This means that everything is arranged for you and you have to worry about nothing other than getting yourself packed and ready to go. Kenya walking holidays can offer you the chance of a lifetime to explore one of Africa's most beautiful countries. Don't hesitate - make some inquiries now.
