But how do you tell if your china has a lot more than sentimental value? Even if it's an heirloom piece you may never part with, discovering its true worth can fuel dinner party conversations just the summer years.

The first thing you want to do is look on the underside of each piece. Any kind of marks? All famous makers have their own symbol or mark they stamp on their wares. You may also get the name of the pattern used. You can find guides about them in try your local library, but here are a few notable names to start: Belleek, Beswick, Bow, Carlton, Chelsea, Claris High cliff, Denby, Derby, Doulton, Builder, Spode, Sylvac, Wedgwood, together with Worcester, to name several.

The next thing to do is find the date of the piece. Looking up the registration mark may do this. On a few pieces dating from 1842 to help 1883, the mark can be a diamond shape with your letters 'R' and 'D' close to it. Other letters at each corner tell you the day, month, and year of manufacture.

If you ever simply see a number, that is referred to for a 'registration number' by collectors and has now the same information encoded inside. You can easily search for this information in some sort of collector's reference guide.

The name of the pattern and royal biceps sometimes appear on British-made merchandise after 1810.

Which "Bone China" were not commonly used until after 1844.

The modern world "Royal" was first applied after 1850.

The term "Limited" or "Ltd. " primary appeared in 1861.

Which "trademark" appear only with pieces made after 1862. Beswick himself died with 1921 and his son, in 1936 made the organization a Limited company : John Beswick Ltd.

Beswick wares were extremely popular in England and abroad being one of many finest ranges available, although they achieved remarkable success with highly specialised lines including life-like models, severe and gay, equestrian stats, dogs modelled from well-known prize-winners, birds in terrific variety, wild and domestic animals, fish, toby jugs, salad ware and cottage ware including of course, the Beatrix Potter selection.

By August 1989, the decision was taken for any Beswick to be produced under the Royal Doulton backstamp, withdrawing grey and palomino matt colours in the horses colourways and only some continue to be available in gloss.
