Coleman Tent Tips: The When's and Where's Of Camping - By: Allan Michael Taylor

The truth is: many people simply let go of their planning skills when it comes to camping. Apparently, there are scores of people who think that communing with Mother Nature is synonymous to simply pitching a tent and winging the rest of the activities. Although that may work on a few occasions, this practice does not guarantee that everything will run smoothly from thereon after. This also does not ensure that everyone involved in the camping trip will have an enjoyable stay, or that there will be enough positive memories about this last trip that will entice people to take up camping again.

If you really want to impart that camping spirit to the rest of your party, then it would be best to do a certain amount of planning. You should start by simply knowing when and where you can pitch up your Coleman tent. Here are a few tips on how to do just that.

When? Technically, you can camp anytime you want – come rain, shine or sleet. However, if you are bringing kids or family members or friends along for the ride, try to make sure that you have ample time to prepare for the camping trip and ample time to get home too. Believe it or not, most people find a weekend camping trip too short.

You may also want to check local weather reports for rain or snow forecasts because unexpected showers can quite literally put a damper on your trip. Fortunately, your Coleman tent can handle rain and even snow. In case though that you feel like braving the damp or cold elements, it would be pack enough blankets and clothes to keep you dry or warm. Having a tent-safe ceramic heat plate (or two) inside your sleeping area(s) will also help keep everyone toasty at night.

Where? Again, you have the liberty to pitch your Coleman tent just about anywhere, but you should always put everyone's safety on the top of your list. Going to a local camping area is always a good idea since there will be park rangers or camp owners who will try to enforce safe camping practices. However, if you do not want to deal with a crowd, you might want to go camping sometime before or after the summer seasons.

Or if you have a very limited time frame, you might want to consider going to the less populated camping zones, but make sure that you have enough communication tools to contact help, just in case you find yourself in a fix.

As for choosing your camping site, you need to find a relatively flat area where you can pitch your Coleman tent. Make sure that there are no overhanging branches (which might break off and fall on you), and that that campsite is about 25 feet or more away from running water.
