Cleanup Your Computer: Delete Unneeded Files to Optimize System Performance - By: KD Bickell

When you're surfing the Internet and using your computer on a daily basis, a lot of junk that you just don't need is collecting on your hard drive. Regularly deleting this unnecessary data can help you free up space on your hard drive and increase system speed. You can use a Disk Cleanup tool to automate the process or delete files by hand. Either way, here are some suggestions to cleanup your computer:

Delete your browsing history:

This will remove temporary Internet files, pages saved in your history, cookies, saved passwords, and information stored about various Web pages. To do this, choose Tools in your browser, and then click on Internet Options. You'll then be able to choose what you want to delete.

Delete unused programs:

We all have them on our computer, whether it's a game we thought we'd play or a photo editing program we've replaced. All of these programs take up space, some a lot more than you probably thought. To review the programs that are currently installed on your computer, go to Control Panel, then Programs, and then click on Programs and Features. Any that you don't use or need can be uninstalled.

Empty your recycle bin:

It's easy to forget that, in most cases, files you delete are not really gone. You may have dozens or even hundreds of files in your recycle bin that are taking up space on your computer. While you're performing a cleanup on your computer, empty that recycle bin. Just make sure you don't need any of the files, because once you delete them from the recycle bin they're gone for good. To make sure your semi-deleted files don't occupy too much hard drive space, you might also think about limiting the size of your computer's recycle bin.

And now you should notice an improvement in your computer's performance!
