I know of folks that is cleaning drip coffee maker of theirs probably once in every 6 months and then complaining about the lousy quality of their coffee!

And this is the whole idea of this article, to highligh how it easy it is to clean the drip coffee maker. Other than being very simple, I also do not require you to purchase any special tools or ingredients, it is also a very inexpensive method.

My process in cleaning a coffee maker is no different from brewing coffee, so if you know how to use your drip coffee machine, then you know how to clean it. And other than detergent, an additional ingredient that is required for this washing is the common kitchen vinegar.

The first thing that you need to do is to top up your coffee machine water tank with a vinegar-water solution. Mix the solution in this proportion: for every 1 part vinegar, there need to be 2 part water.

After filling the water tank with this solution, switch on the coffee brewer and run it as though you are brewing coffee. After the solution has dripped into the carafe, allow it to cool for about 15 minutes.

If you have not been cleaning your coffee maker for awhile, you might want to repeat this process a few more time.

After you have drained away the vinegar-water solution, filled the water tank with warm water, switch on the coffee machine. Similarly, after the water has dripped into the carafe, wait for 15 minutes before pouring away the water.

This process is to rinse off the vinegar solution, so do this process at least 3 times to ensure that there is no residual vinegar solution inside the brewer.

What you have just did, is to clean the internal parts of a coffee machine, this would ensure that there is no residual coffee oil left behind to give you any rancid coffee.
And to finish the whole process and to ensure that the vinegar solution is totally cleared from the coffee machine, wash the machine once with water and detergent.

Personally, I find that washing the exterior of a coffee maker is also very important, because it would serve as a buzzer to alert you to wash your machine. I know that most of us would only wash the machine when it is neccessary. So, keeping the exterior clean and when it is soiled, you would automatically be prompt to wash it is important, don't you agree?

Cleaning the exterior is easy, all you need to do is to apply multi purpose cleaner on a soft cloth and wipe away the dirt on the machine.

So, this process is an easy and inexpensive way to clean your coffee maker, don't you think so? And I believe that by highlighting this easy method to clean your machine, you would be doing it more frequently and that would ultimately improves your coffee quality.

Just so that you know, a clean coffee machine is the key to brewing better coffee, so start washing that brewer today!
