Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and the largest city in the country. Its population comprises about 2,5 millions (with suburbs). This most western European capital lies on the Atlantic Ocean coast at mouth of Tagus River. The history of the city counts nearly 2000 years and for almost 1000 years it's the capital of Portugal.

A three day city breaks in Lisbon provides sufficient time to visit most of the key tourist attractions. It was early October when we enjoyed such a break and the weather was perfect. Each day had blue skies and sunshine with a pleasant breeze preventing it getting too hot. Despite this, the evenings were still warm enough to eat outside. However, Lisbon's weather is not always so good in late October and it might be safer to plan to visit a little earlier than we did.

Lisbon is culturally very rich with architecture and some beautiful sights which has made it one of the top destination for tourists. Classical structure of buildings as well as the modern ones can be seen all over Lisbon. Among these beautiful sights Museums are also of major importance. The National Museum of Ancient Art is regarded as the biggest museum in Portugal. Also the museum (Lisbon Oceanarium) is the world's second largest museum.

Lisbon is also known as "the town of seven hills" which are compromised of the seven hills: Castelo, Graca, Monte, Penha de Franca, S.Pedro de Alcantara, Santa Catarina and Estrela.

Another attraction is the Portugese Late Gothic-style Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceicao Velha. Although damaged during the earthquake, it was rebuilt using recovered pieces of the building. The most prominent monument in Lisbon is also in the Portuguese Late Gothic style and is the magnificent Jeronimos Monastery, featuring the wonderful cloister. Also in this area is the 16th Century Belem Tower, which was built as a tribute to Vasco da Gama.
