Decorating a Christmas tree is a Christmas tradition that goes back for generations and some people's fondest memories of past Christmas moments revolve around Christmas trees. A tree is not just the shiny thing in the corner each Christmas it is also the thing of memories and it is often the Christmas tree decorations that stand out the most.

Christmas tree ornaments were traditionally shiny baubles, fruits or chocolates and lights in the form of lit candles. Since we don't want to burn the house down these days the candles have thankfully been replaced with electric lights. Times have also changed since the days when one of the Christmas traditions was checking each individual bulb on the string of lights to see which was broken and breaking the whole lot; before heading out to a 24 hour petrol station in the hope we could get replacements. Modern lights are resilient, bright, fun and use very little power.

The most traditional form of Christmas tree ornaments is the bauble but these have also moved on from the fragile glass globes that would break every year as you packed them away. A lot of them are made in much stronger plastics now and often they come in the shape of popular kids television figures which will make the traditional tree far more amusing and memorable for younger kids. You can of course still get chocolate and other edible Christmas tree decorations which really cheer the kids up and, if you only let them eat a couple a day this can teach them some lessons in not being too greedy at the same time. It's probably a good job to keep a plentiful supply of spares for those times when the lesson isn't learned very well.

It is still a wonderful thing to have a wide range of ornaments for the tree and making a family affair of the decoration can be a lovely family memory for the future.
