When you’re deciding which mobility scooter is right for you, you might want to consider additions and accessories for your mobility scooter. Most scooters now come with a small hitch type receiver underneath the rear of the seat making it very easy to add accessories such as an oxygen tank holder or walker holder. You’ll also want to consider a mobility scooter with arm rests as they can provide another way to add accessories such as side saddle bags or cup holders. So be sure to consider future needs or consult with others who have been using a handicap scooter for some time to gather what suggestions they have for necessary accessories.
The first and most common technique to attach mobility scooter additions is the hitch receiver underneath the back of the seat. Typically there is a small pin you can simply slide out and slide in the accessory of your choice. Then simply slide the pin through both the hitch and accessory to lock it into place. Some of the most common items to place in there are oxygen tank holder, cane and crutch holder and a rear basket. Many times the front basket that comes standard on almost all scooters doesn’t quite offer enough room to carry your needed items or groceries throughout the day. The rear basket is more sturdy and slightly deeper and wider than most front baskets on mobility scooters. Be sure to ask your handicap scooter provider if this hitch option is available on the model you are purchasing or if you can upgrade at a later date if you choose not to buy a seating option with a receiver for rear accessories.
As mentioned earlier you can also attach many mobility scooter options to the arm rests of your device. One of the most popular additions is the cup holder. They come in different styles such as clamp on or a cup holder than can be attached under the arm pad of your mobility scooter arm. These cup holders come in various sizes so be sure to pick the right size for your average drink. You don’t want to have your drink sliding around while maneuvering your mobility scooter. The next most common arm accessory is the side arm saddle bag. This bag is typically no larger than a small purse but perfect for carrying a wallet or keys so they are easily accessible while traveling to your desired destination. The last and most practical accessory for safety is the mobility scooter safety flag. This flag typically attaches to the back of the arm and can be placed on easily. This flag will make it easier for others to see you while riding. This is especially practical if you’ll be operating your electric scooter outside on roads so that cars can spot you and take caution around you.
So again when choosing your mobility scooter be sure to consider what options you need currently or might need in the future. It would be a large hassle and financial burden to purchase a new scooter simply because your current scooter cannot accommodate your needs in the future. Be sure to ask your mobility scooter specialist for options pricing and they might even be able to include them in the price of your handicap scooter.
