If you are similar to college students heading home for any holidays after your first semester of college, there's a chance you're bringing a few extra pounds with you. The dreaded freshman 15 is almost inevitable and it's about this time of year when freshman across the country realize their late day pizzas, dorm food indulgences (Air cleaner will add you Mr. Soft Serve Ice Cream Machine), and kegs of cheap beer have finally caught up with them. So what do you do about it? Here are a few things I learned with gaining the freshman 15 (or freshman 30 in my case) that may assist you avoid the freshman 15 plus more importantly, keep the body fat off:



  1. Don't freak out . I, like most of my classmates, was absolutely devastated as i gained the freshman 15. It appeared like the end of the modern world and many of my classmates proceeded binge diets and developed eating disorders for the reason that were so upset about this. Trust me, it might seem like the end in the world now, but you'll soon realize it is just a rite of passage. Like most freshman, the things that secured me from reaching my own ideal weight -- going out to restaurants with friends, drinking a touch too much at college get-togethers, and of course, pizza at 2am -- were also the cause of some of my best college memories. If you want to party and avoid an eating disorder, you will probably gain some weight. But in my viewpoint, it's totally worth it. An eating disorder is not really.


  2. Pick your calories wisely : Some things are worth gaining a few pounds for, but some are not. For instance, going out for pizza to enjoy time with friends may be worth the consequences, but grabbing tiny because Starbucks concoctions to cure your boredom definitely isn't. I now know one of the best college drink had 270 calories, 10 grams of fat and 31 grams associated with sugar. Totally not worth it.


  3. Limit your sugar intake whenever possible : I love handsome, but it is the most recognized reason why I gain weight. Although experts haven't really arrived at a consensus on everything, many agree that some sort of low-glycemic diet ( great article on this ) is the best way to lose weight. From my personal experience, I cannot acknowledge more. I avoid sugar for two reasons: 1) When i eat sugar, I crave more sugar and 2) To look at eat food with little vitamins and minerals, my body burns by way of it quickly and I end up with uncontrollable cravings.
