Choosing an A329 First Officer Job - By: Aero Professional

A friend of my father used to be a pilot and he would often visit our house and tell us stories about his travels and all the different people whom he would encounter. Our favourite stories would involve a man he knew who had an A320 first officer job and could always be counted upon to rise to any occasion and graced all gatherings he attended. He had worked on the Airbus since the first one was built in 1988 and to this day he has been proven correct as he predicted that the Airbus would be the safest method of air travel.

My father’s friend and this gentleman recently came to visit and we found out that he now held an A320 first officer job in Europe and was still enjoying his work. Whilst they were talking, my nephew came into the room and listened avidly to their stories. Once they had left we got to discussing careers and my nephew told us very firmly that he wished to fly an aeroplane. We put it down to him just having listened to aviation stories and thought nothing of it until we found out that he had changed his options to what he had been told were the requirements needed for becoming a pilot. It was good thing that his parents both approved of his decision and would support him in his choice.

I, myself hate to fly and while I did not exactly have a phobia about it, it was not something which I did often or voluntarily. Like a lot of people, I had had a few panic attacks when I had first started to travel on aeroplanes and although these had stopped a long time ago, I still felt anxious whenever I knew that I had to travel by air and tried to avoid it whenever I could. I had heard all the statistics about how flying was the safest form of travelling and that more people died every year from driving related accidents than from air related disasters, but I was still not reassured and dreaded the news that I would have to fly.

I still find myself with a sinking feeling in my stomach whenever I had to face the fact that I needed to fly, either for business or for family events. I was glad that at least I did not have to travel abroad for my vacations since I love holidaying in the UK and finding out of the way and unusual vacation spots where I can discover local haunts and find curio shops and antique dealers. My favourite sightseeing trips are those which involve a visit to a castle and to there are more than 300 to choose from so I do not have to fly somewhere else. Having an A320 first officer job may be exciting and glamorous but as for me, I would definitely prefer to keep my feet firmly on the ground and my head out of the clouds!
