Choosing Games for Kids - By: Allan Michael Taylor

If you happen to ask a kid what he/she wants to do, no doubt, he'll answer: to play. When it comes to games, children never run out of energy . What's more, is that children get easily bored with a game and they would insist on playing another one; something more fun and exciting.

Finding games that would suit a child's interest is difficult

Choosing children's games depend on several factors

First - child's age. The games they're going to play must suit their ability and capacity which is reflected in the child's age. Otherwise, a kid would find a game too hard and too advanced for him/her to play and understand. Rather than having fun, the kid would find it too stressful and would affect him/her psychologically. It makes them think that they can't do anything good.

Second- resources. There are games that require a number of materials to be used which must be prepared beforehand. these materials help in carrying out the game. One cannot play without these things. It provides a clearer picture of what the game is all about. Kids should be introduced to each object they are going to use, what is its proper use and what shouldn't be done with it. Board games, puzzles, and card games are just few examples of children's games that require materials, whereas, hide-and-seek and charades can be played without using tools. Sound charades is one amusing children's game, kids can play indoors. A crowd of children is divided into two or three groups depending on their number. Like the traditional charades, a representative goes forward and is told a thing or animal. What the child must do is not to picture it to her group but to make the sound that it produces. Based on that sound, her group mates should guess the thing or animal. This enables kids to be more attentive with their surroundings and to apply what they learned about the things around them.

Third- presence of supervision. It cannot be avoided that when kids play with other kids, they lose, get teased and get themselves involved in a fight . Parents or guardians should be there to remind them the proper behavior in playing with other kids. They must see to it that children don't do things they shouldn't do and don't get to play things they're not meant to play with like guns, even if they're just toy guns. Playhouse is one such game that needs a lot of guidance. Essentially, the presence of a family helps in the child's psychological development because it reflects their love by giving their attention and support.

Games are not simply a child's game. Children's games are a way for families to bond and build stronger relationships with each other, especially with the child. It's a valuable moment for the parents to showcase their love and care and for children who could be assured he is loved.
