Choosing Children's Books That Are Good for Your Kids - By: Patrick Connery

At a very young age children become very inquisitive and curious. They will assimilate new information like a sponge. It is up to the parents to make sure that what our children assimilate is valuable and positive.

There is only acertain amount of knowledge that the parents can give their children and when there comes a moment when a toddler starts developing quickly, we will need to introduce an outside source of knowledge and stimulation. The best thing to be used are children's books and educational games.

They will affect how children are managing when they eventually start going to school. With educational games, however, I don't mean computer games, which in contrast are likely to slow down the development of imagination and create a wrong perception about the real world.

Reading appropriate children's books is easily the best and most proven way of building the knowledge and understanding of things and processes around. What should be noted by the parents is that children should start reading as early as possible in order to speed up their growth. Of course, it is important to pick suitable children's books that fit the age and mental capabilities of your kids.

Apart from improving the comprehension and developing intellect, books are also a great way for children to pick up new words and improve their language - both spoken and written - when it comes to it.

Learning a language, be it your mother tongue or a foreign language, is usually a great struggle, whereas, the more fluent you are with reading, the easier it is to grasp new words and widen your everyday lexis so that we can communicate with others efficiently.

What makes children's books a great source of information and fun for all family is the fact that the parents can control what kind of information is conveyed to their children. It is different with the web and TV, where once some naughty person says or posts a harmful thing, there is little you can do to make sure your kids don't see it. Although it is a great responsibility and parents must free their mind from prejudice and dogmas, when children are small, we can make this choice for them of what information will they assimilate. That's why buying children's books that are simple, positive and don't delve into questionable issues, is definitely the best thing you can do for your kids.

That way we will ensure that our children always see the both sides of a story and that they are free from judgement when they enter the adult life. Books and information in general is the basis of the society, they are a powerful tool in forming people's personalities and characters on a large scale. On a small scale, however, there is me and you, us parents who are making the choice and painting the big picture for the next generation.

Children's books are a wonderful step towards a fulfilled adult life. Getting children to read is as important as teaching them to walk, eat and other basic but vital things.
