Chiropractic EMR and Billing Programs: What to look for - By: Back2Basics

With the passage of the new healthcare law and emphasis is being pushed to mandate electronic records software. While most Chiropractic offices utilize some form of basic software, aggressive companies have embarked on a campaign to push products that may overreach the typical Chiropractors needs. Chiropractic software should provide the doctor or staff with a means to simplify everyday tasks and to make fee collection more efficient. Chiropractors specialize in treating muscular and skeletal conditions and typically do not require the complex practice management software that other providers may.

The dynamics of technology and the internet are ever changing and this is of concern when purchasing Chiropractic software for documentation or billing. Purchasing software is not unlike buying an automobile in that the life of the product and the support available is critical to the success of the item as equally as are the features.

When evaluating Chiropractic billing and EMR software, it is important to not be swayed by rarely used features or mislead by false promises. Just because a software company claims a system will save you time any money does not guarantee this will be the case. Every Chiropractor practices differently and there is no cookie cutter program available that suits everyones needs.

Do not purchase a Chiropractic billing or documentation program unless a fully functional trail is available. Until you can actually experience the program, it is unlikely that you will have the exposure you require to make an informed decision. Screen shots and sales rep declarations will often leave you disappointed with the results.

Be cautious of high support fees that often lower the initial price of aChiropractic billing and EMR software. Chiropractors tend to repeat similar procedures and use a limited number of diagnosis codes so once a program is understood, support is rarely needed.

Most of all ask questions from the supplier. Do not rely on a support service that only responds to emails. If you have a problem you will want to speak to someone as soon as possible and not lose money and time awaiting a response.
