The frustrating corners and nook of a ball can present golf as the gentleman’s game because of the discipline, patience and skill while playing it. Even the best golfers find it difficult with the rough. Here, you will find a few tips to chip a golf ball.

What are chipping situations?
Chipping is the basic ability in golf. When the shots fail to land on the green or on the fairway, it might just land in the rough or the sand trap. This is the reason why the golfer would have to chip the ball to make the ball land square on the green with less possible number of strokes. A smooth chip will take out the ball of the rough or bunker.

The right club for chipping
Any club on your golf bag can be used to do chipping but there are two sets perfect for chipping. The iron club is specifically designed for use on the rough which gives balls greater elevation at the expense of distance which is the primary goal when chipped. The wedge club is particularly used for the bunkers when the golfer wants to lift the ball out of the sand trap. The wedge has a sloping design which allows it to cut through the sand and ease the ball out of the bunker aimed at getting it into the green.

Below are the steps that can be followed to chip a ball out of the rough or trap:

Step 1:
First, decide which golf club is to be used for the chipping task. The caddy can be consulted for suggestions if preferred.

Step 2:
Think about the grip and standard stance you would need to have on your club.

Step 3:
If the terrain of the location is sloped in the bunker or a slanted part of the rough, stand steady and make sure that your balance is perfect.

Step 4:
The situation has to be assessed looking at the ball and a spot in the green in which the ball has to be chipped. If you think it can be done then focus on sighting the hole.

Step 5:
Give momentum to your club by taking a small backswing. You can use your whole body but avoid making a full backswing when it is not necessary.

Step 6:
Now chip the ball out of the spot and see if the task has been successful.

It is sure that a golfer wants to play a game in perfect way but the roughs, bunkers and hazards make it more challenging and interesting. Taking help from the above mentioned tips, you can improve your skills to play golf and you can experience a challenging performance with this gentleman’s game.
