Children's Toys & Their Benefit to the Senses & Development - By: Felicity Lightbody

Children are learning something new every day from the time they are born into this world. Though when they are babies, many think that the only things that they can learn are small babble words, and how to sit up on their own. This is a misunderstanding, for babies can be taught intellectual and development skills through toys, no matter what the age. Just because children get to have fun with learning, doesn't mean that they aren't learning anything important. There are tons of children toys out there that help them learn new and exciting things everyday.

Some children learn slower than others, and this is perfectly normal. Every child has their own different learning rate, and they make great toys for every different child.

Music is a great way for a child to learn, so starting them off with toys that play music and songs would be an excellent choice. You can choose whether you want the songs to be classic nursery rhymes, or songs that teach them the alphabet. Fisher Price sells keyboards and other musical instruments that the child can make music with, as well as learn different songs and words. And interaction with the child is always good, so these toys would be great for parents to sing along with and help the child learn how to play the instrument.

Although sometimes hearing and visual toys aren't always the key with some children. Hand's on toys and projects are another great way of helping a child learn. Building blocks have been around since before we can remember, and yet, they never go out of style. Building blocks are a great way of helping a child learn because it teaches them how to use their coordination and brains to stack the blocks properly. Though it may be easy for adults to differentiate the different sizes of blocks, it can be challenging to children. So starting them off around the age of even six months, could be helpful to their learning development.

As a child gets older, it's time to start advancing to more advanced toys. The Bugsby learning system is a book that comes in a variety of characters, and different stories. These books also include a pen that the child can scan over the words with, to help them read and pronounce what the word is. These are great to start children around the age of four, so that by the time they start reading in reception class, they will be ahead of the game.

And if your child doesn't want to learn from reading books or playing with toys, then there are always video games. Some parents may veto against a kid playing video games. The truth is though, that a lot of children video games can be very educational, without the child even realising that their learning while playing. They can play computer games that help with their typing, or play gaming console games that can help them with spelling and math, which is very important.
