Children’s Rugs you never thought your child would love - By: Gareth Hoyle1

Children’s rugs can be very expensive and your child can often get bored of them very quickly so have a look at alternative options for children’s rugs that your child will love.

When you think of a children’s rug you always think of the character rugs or rugs shaped like cars, when you do a search on Google for Children’s rugs you are inundated with Disney characters and rugs with animals and princesses on them. These rugs are great and kids love them, but with rugs like this children can get bored and want a new one after only a short amount of time, they also seem to be marked up in price for the novelty of being a children’s rug.

There are a few retailers such as Land of Rugs that sell cheap children’s rugs but many shops will mark up children’s rugs on the basis that kids have nagging power and will nag you into buying a novelty rug if they see them. However, many children aren’t too bothered about having a novelty children’s rug and a plainer rug will actually last longer as your child won’t grow out of it or get bored of the particular character.

You can now find a lot of cheap rugs that are good quality and come with lots of styles and patterns, these are not labelled children’s rugs but depending on your child’s decorations can fit in and look great. If your child has lots of decorations in their room you may want to opt for a simpler style rug so as to compliment the decorations and not overpower the room. Remember, your child has to sleep in this room so over stimulation may be too much for them.

For a little boy you can find lots of great stripy rugs in blues, or boyish colours that will match his room. You can also go for a plain blue, black, green or greys, I would avoid white as boys, and children, can be messy and spill and a white rug will need to be constantly cleaned.

If you have a girl you may want to look at floral patterns, there are a lot of great girly patterns available for a reasonable price and as they are not specifically children’s rugs you don’t have to pay over the odds. You can also go for plain coloured rugs in pinks, purples and reds that your little girl will love.

If you are decorating a nursery, basically anything goes and many people like to put down wool rugs, these are lovely for supervised play and great for pictures. They are also more warming with the long fibres than other rugs and will add a cosy element to your nursery.
