One of the most surprising locations to offer cheap hotels is the Maldives. Well once you think about it probably not. The Maldives is seen as a luxury destination and in these economic hard times people cut out their luxuries first or look for cheaper alternatives.

While holidaying in the Maldives have a look at the overall cost for the holiday before you disregard the location. It was a reported that the islands have suffered a large drop in visitors in February compared to last year when more than 200,000 British holidaymakers flocked there. To increase demand many hoteliers have cut the prices to attract more tourists.

Apparently a posh four star hotel had to make half of its employees redundant after having only enough bookings to fill a third of the hotel. These hotels have not reduced their rates significantly; a quick search on a comparison site shows an all inclusive package for just six hundred and fifty pounds. Many of these deals can be found offering you the chance to get a lot more for your money with a four or five star hotel offering half price room rates.

The government also announced the construction of cheaper hotels and guesthouses so the Maldives will be able to offer more affordable holidays attracting more holidaymakers to the islands. These cheap hotels will pay lower rents that hotels opening up the industry and making it a more competitive environment.

The Maldives will no longer be experienced by those well off and I predict within ten years the
cheap hotels will mean the islands will cater for a greater range of couples, gap year students and groups.

With global warming this group of beautiful islands, of which 250 of the almost 1,200 are inhabited, are predicted to be submerged by the end of the century as they lie just 5ft above sea level. Some may have gone before we know it so sounding really cheesy here but take advantage of the cheap hotels and deals available and go and experience the Maldives this year to have the holiday of your life.
