Most of us have long been dedicated to do our tasks in preserving the environment. We send old newspapers, magazines, and papers to recycling centers. We segregate the garbage. We have our ink cartridges refilled rather than purchasing new ones, and so on. Unfortunately, the number of people conscious of doing these environment-friendly activities is very few compared to people who are not. And while we wait for the world to become more aware of what's happening to the planet, we have to continue discovering new ways on how to preserve and conserve our resources.

As far as publishing jobs are concerned, green printing is the way to go. Thanks to businesses that took initiative in the green commitment, environment-friendly and cheap printing products and services are now available to consumers. Businesses are getting rid of the dangers of using traditional petroleum-based ink through providing new and excellent alternatives, like soy ink. If you need to be aware, petroleum-based inks spread harmful volatile organic compounds or VOCs into the soil and through air. People exposed to these VOCS could possibly develop cancer and many fatal diseases.

Providing the best alternative to petroleum-based inks is the revolutionary soy ink. This kind of ink employs soybean oil, a natural ingredient that's definitely have low concentration of VOCs. Many newspapers, magazines and other printed materials are now processed using this ink. It goes without saying that soy ink is more environment-friendly since it is sustainable, being a product of a renewable energy source. If you or your office frequently hires the services of a printing company, make sure that the company too is committed to green and cheap printing. If you can print without utilizing traditional pulp-based papers, do it. Inquire whether they offer alternatives to pulp-based papers. A lot of printing companies today offer options in non-traditional papers, like those made of cotton, hemp, and other synthetic materials.

Since it is simply not possible to completely avoid pulp-based papers, make sure at least that the printing company utilizes recycled paper with high levels of post-consumer material. Note that most paper brands today claim that their products are recycled, only to discover that many of them use less than 20 percent of the recycled content. Using recycled paper contributes to high quality and cheap printing, so it is also directly beneficial to you money-wise. Remember that this activity can spare the world from hectares of landfill space, aside from saving tons of water and significant energy consumption.

In the United States alone, more 100 million trees are being cut annually to satisfy our needs for writing and printing papers. Think of this as not only destructive to forests and the wildlife living in it, but also to quality of air we breathe and the water we want to conserve so well.
