When undertaking the process of replacing or cleaning ink cartridges or toner cartridges in a printer, it can often be a messy and untidy chore. If nearby items are expensive or essential business equipment it is worthwhile taking a bit of time to complete this process as cleanly as possible.

It is usually best to undertake this task in a well ventilated room in order to prevent the inhalation of potentially harmful ink dust or fumes.

In order to prevent any ink spilling out onto surfaces or flooring it is generally advisable to spread out a cloth or cover over any nearby surfaces which can be affected.

When removing the ink or toner cartridges, it is advisable to do this slowly and carefully in order to prevent any mishaps and accidents.

The old cartridge should be immediately placed in a bag or box in order to prevent additional spillages and the replacement cartridge should be inserted immediately. Before inserting though, it is advisable to clean the cartridge area with a paper towel or soft cloth to ensure that no ink dust can clog the mechanisms and printer heads.

If any ink or toner is spilled it should be cleaned up without delay. This is a fine powder and can be difficult to clean if left for any period of time. If cleaned immediately with a small vacuum cleaner or fine brush and pan, these particles can be brushed from the floors and surfaces. A hand vacuum can better remove the ink dust without spreading it to other parts of the office or room or allowing it to enter the atmosphere.
