Challenging behavior policy – Nua Health Care - By: Nua Healthcare

To support and assist staff in their day-to-day management of challenging behaviour by providing specific training and instruction.

There can be no single solution to the problem of challenging behavior - sometimes solutions simply are not available. It is important that violentand challenging behaviour should not be reviewed in isolation. It is part of a complex whole that makes up an individual's behaviour.

It is the aim at Nua Healthcare Services to help service users come to terms with themselves, their behaviours, their learning difficulties and autism in order to lead full and enriching lives within the community. This is a possibility for all/many of the service users at Nua Healthcare Services for most of the time. Being able to deal effectively with violent and challenging behaviour is therefore an important part of staff work within Nua Healthcare.

The key to managing challenging behaviour within Nua Healthcare Services is flexibility, planning, regular assessment and most importantly, an agreed, consistent, whole approach to manage those disruptive and challenging behaviours. Nua Healthcare Services will provide staff with the following:

• A clear policy and procedure
• Appropriate training
• Effective monitoring of all incidents of violence towards staff
• Appropriate debriefing or counselling in the case of persistent trauma
