While the cell phone revolution continues to grow in popularity, cell phone providers find themselves struggling to keep up with the ringtone demand. Although all carriers provide the ability for customers to download ringtones, wallpaper and games directly from them, consumers are looking for a lower cost method. The typical ringtone download can cost $.99 or more, while additional costs for using the web to search for and download the ringtone quickly add to that. Meanwhile, cell phone providers face heavy competition in this area from specialty sites that offer monthly subscriptions for inexpensive ringtone downloads.

One way to combat the growing competition has been to create a niche product for customers that allow them to manage downloads directly to their cell phones. Verizon Wireless has done just that with the launch of VZW Tones. VZW Tones is part of the Get It Now website and it has all the best clips of your favorite songs that you can use as ring tones for your wireless phone. To get started, customers simply download VZW Tones from Get Tunes & Tones section of their application using True Tones or from other phones you can access the True Tones section of Get Tones in the GET IT NOW catalog. You have the choice of pre-paying for 1, 2 or 4 ringtone credits with the application. Each ringtone credit is good for one ringtone download, and the charges will appear on your wireless bill.

Downloading a ringtone is easy. Once you have found the content you want to download, select the “Purchase” option on your handset. You will then be reminded of your credit balance. To confirm your purchase, simply select the “Purchase” option again. One major advantage to using a customized site for ringtones by your provider is that they can walk you through the process step by step. Verizon provides detailed instructions for downloading ringtones, games and wallpaper. So customers never miss a beat when getting their new downloads.

Another positive to this is customer service. Verizon customer service is available for help with downloads. Because Verizon only offers this service to their customers, they don’t have to deal with questions about downloading to phones from other providers.

Unfortunately, pricing information for downloads or using the Get it Now feature is not readily available without logging into your Verizon Wireless account.
