Earlier, a fat child meant a healthy child, one who was likely to survive the rigors of malnutrition and infection.

In the past decade however, excessive fat has become one of the primary childhood health problems.

Obesity is defined as excessive buildup of body fat. Today obesity in children and adolescents has become a serious issue especially in the United States, with over 25 % of children considered obese.

We often come across people who stuff their children with food and just because they look plump and cute they think being fat as a child is ok. But as a nation we struggle with our weight.

The reasons are very clear. Fast foods, high calorie foods, not enough time to work out, sitting down and playing video games all the time, are just a few causes of obesity in a child. Fast food plays a crucial role behind childhood obesity.

Symptoms of Obesity in Children

1. Clothes emotion tighter and need for a larger size
2. The scale showing you have gained weight
3. Have extra fat approximately the waist
4. A higher than normal body mass index and waist circumference. Body mass index is a measure of an adult’s weight in relation to his or her height.
5. Thickness approximately the midsection
6. Obvious areas of fat deposits

Treating Overweight Children

With diet is complex. Children should not be placed on severe calorie-restricted diets. Unlike adults, children are still growing; significant calorie restriction can affect their ability to grow and develop correctly.

However, that doesn’t mean that parents of plump children can’t positively impact their children’s weight by improving the overall healthfulness of the foods that they and their children are drinking.

Home Remedies for Obesity

1. A balanced diet should be taken. Include levelheaded amounts of potatoes and also take whole grain cereals in you diet.

2. Stop nibbling between meals. Train physically to get along less food. You will enjoy living on a reduced diet.

3. Prepare a mixture by adding 1/4 teaspoon powdered black pepper, 3-teaspoon limejuice, and 1-teaspoon honey in 1 cup water. Drink this mixture for 3-4 months. This is one of the best home remedies for obesity.

4. Be careful about “ left – over. Mostly housewives put on weight because they hate to see food wasted. It is better to prepare less food and avoid the problem of “ left – over”.

5. Take exercise everyday. Walking is the best work out. Burn up unwanted calories by putting large leg muscles to work.

6. Excess sugar and fat is high in calories but low in food value. Never take Ice- cream, pastry, rich cakes and sweets.

7. Meals should be well prepared, lesser and attractively arranged on the table. Enjoy your meals.

8. Eating regularly but carefully is the best way to lose weight.

9. Be sure to have a good & light breakfast: mealtime will carry you through the day.

10. Your diet should include emerald leafy vegetables, tomatoes and carrots. They are low in calories, but high in vitamins and minerals and have real food value.
