The causes of autism are not yet known with certainty. Recent research suggests a link between genetic susceptibility and environmental agents. Indeed, there is evidence that no one factor causes autism and that perhaps there exists a synergy among several agents.

If someone in the family has already been diagnosed with autism, there is a higher risk that another child may be diagnosed with the same condition, especially if he is a first-degree relative.

Any change in their environment or ritual will result in a tantrum. Any of these symptoms is an indicator that something may be amiss and further information sought.

Another cause of autism which has been disputed when the theory appeared is that the condition is caused by certain vaccination given to children after birth. It is of the belief that these vaccines have properties that affects the child negatively, since they are made certain toxic chemicals.

Some studies show that a cause of autism may be a depressed immune system while others connect it to family members with depression or dyslexia. With these disorders on both sides of the family tree, the chances of having an autistic child appear to increase.

It was believed that mothers were not loving and neglecting their children which cause them to regress into their own world. But environmental analysis has changed this notion and believed that autism has a direct link to the environment. Early detection will decrease cost. Parents should be assured that your efforts to cure autism will be rewarded.

Even with all these theories we are still no closer to knowing what causes autism. But I feel with the recent awareness of autism and the emphasis on research that it will not be very long before we find out what truly causes autism. I think it most likely will be a combination of factors and maybe different reasons for different individuals - maybe even within the same family.

Autism is was a word that families do not want to hear. Since then, we have all come to accept it and our families have been very compassionate about our son and us.
