Caring For Your Photos - By: Justin Davis

Precious things are meant to last forever but that is not the case with pictures which is one of our priceless valuables, we want to keep photos forever for the sake of remembering someone, something or some special event but somehow pictures fade away or get ruined. Is it possible to keep pictures in their original state? Pictures CAN last a lifetime if it is well taken care of but it can also be ruined in an instant if it has been left neglected.

1. Before you place a picture in a photo frame be sure that you have a mat board with it to protect your photo from damage. It is also important place your photo frame away from the sunlight.

2. Do not store or keep your photos in the same closet or cabinet where you keep your cleaning products or any other harmful chemicals like paint, pesticide or hairsprays because their fumes can actually damage your photos.

3. If you live in an area where disaster like flood and tornado constantly hit your place make sure that you securely keep your photographs in a place where they are safe. Place it in an enameled steel file cabinet or perhaps if you have a safety deposit box in your home you can place it there together with your other valuables.

4. One way of displaying and storing the photos is through photo album, be sure that you are using an acid-free album pages. Albums these days are already acid-free but to be sure you can check out the label and look for the acid-free word.

5. If you are fond of keeping our photographs in a box be sure that you do not mix it with newspaper clippings as well as other documents. Some newspapers and magazines may contain a small amount of acid which could damage your photo.

6. When making a scrapbook which would require making use of newspaper clippings, make sure that you do not use the actual newspaper cut-out instead have it photo copied using an acid-free bond paper.

7. Never write directly on the picture. Write at the back of the photos but never at the photo itself. Avoid putting any adhesive products like stick-on, stickers, etc as the chemicals used in these can be harmful to the photos.

The glass for picture frames really makes a difference in the overall presentation of your photographs. Displaying art in frames or cherished family photos is something that everyone should take pride in. These decorations make your home more personal and inviting to others. When framing your photos, there are two key things to remember: take pride in your photos and take care of your photos!
When I say take pride in your photos, I don't mean show them off and make a big scene when visitors come to your house. You should take pride in them by displaying them to their fullest potential. The glass for picture frames is very important and is one of the biggest factors in this. You have a beautiful picture, but what happens when you use cheap glass? If you put your photos in a room with light, you will see an awful glare on all of your pictures. Or if your photos are in a room with a window, your photos are slowly washing out.
Take pride in your pictures by using higher quality glass for picture frames. Clear glass allows these things to happen to your pictures. But if you use Anti-glare or anti-reflective glass, your pictures will last for a lot longer and also be displayed to its fullest potential.
