T-model of Ford was the first car made by using purely mass-production methods at the start of the twentieth century. Since then cars have seen several upgrades in their performance, amenities, and looks. Car headlights too have undergone many modifications. They are no longer just a pair of similar lights at the front end of a car. Their basic function, however, remains the same. They enable the driver of a car to see clearly on the road at night or when the visibility is poor due to fog or any other reason. The driver can move ahead avoiding other traffic and obstacles on the road. He needs sufficient time to react to the situation on the road. Brighter the headlights the longer will be their reach on the road and the driver will have more time to react. At present there are brighter sources of light like LED lights, Xenon lights, and halogen lights which are very useful in this context.

Besides being bright the light beam should also be cast on the appropriate areas on the road. For this purpose there are reflectors and special lenses in the headlight assembly which can be manipulated by the driver to cast the beam of light in the right areas. Whereas the headlights enable the driver of a car to see on the road they should not simultaneously blind the driver
of the vehicle coming from the opposite direction. This is taken care of by properly locating the headlights to keep their beam downwards or by using devices like dimmers. Since headlights are primarily a safety feature they have to conform to certain regulations made by the Department of Transport.

Since the car headlights are so visible their designers have been tempted to convert them into a decorative item as well. The entire headlight assembly is kept in a cover called housing. The designers create different attractive designs for these housings. Different materials in various colors are used in making them to offer a wider choice to the customers.
