Can Peppermint Relieve Your IBS Symptoms? - By: Robert Carleton

There are a number of different issues that you may be dealing with as a result of irritable bowel syndrome. For most people, it will tend to show itself either in the form of diarrhea or constipation but it may also show up in the form of abdominal cramping, gas and bloating. Believe it or not, this bloating process may actually trigger further abdominal problems of IBS symptoms in many individuals. It's a vicious circle that once you enter into it, it can be difficult to break. Fortunately, there are some natural things that can be done which will help you overcome it.

One natural thing that has been overlooked for many years, often in favor of taking pharmaceutical medication is peppermint oil. This oil has been shown, even in scientific and medical studies to be very effective in helping people to overcome problems with bloating and gas which may be a major factor in irritable bowel syndrome. The difficulty is, you need to figure out exactly how much peppermint oil you should be taking in order to overcome these difficulties. Not enough, and it will not have an impact on the overall bloating but if you take too much, it can cause severe problems that range from indigestion to heart problems.

Another thing that you can take which has been shown to be very effective at helping with irritable bowel syndrome is fiber. There are plenty of sources of fiber that can be utilized in order to overcome this problem but I would recommend going with something natural, rather than going with one of the imitation fiber products that are often found on the shelves of drugstores. Believe it or not, one of the best sources of fiber and an excellent way to overcome the IBS symptoms are Chia seeds. This gift from Central America has been used for thousands of years, both for its health and its nutritional benefits.

You can find Chia seeds in bulk on the Internet and in some cases, they are even organic. You mix one third of a cup of Chia seeds along with one full cup of water and allow to sit for 15 minutes. It will turn into a gelatinous concoction and you would want to make sure that you are taking two spoonfuls at least three times every day. This will give you the fiber that you need to keep your digestive process moving properly and to help you to overcome any IBS symptoms you may be experiencing.
