CAT 2010 to be held for more days, less centers: Prometric - By: MBA

To avoid the glitches of CAT 2009, IIMs and its testing partner Prometric are taking many a steps. CAT 2010 is expected to be held across a longer time period, compared to the original ten day schedule of CAT 2009 (which was extended by two additional days). It is also expected that CAT 2010 will be held a little earlier than its usual November dates. CAT 2009 was held from November 28 to December 7. Later, it was extended for two days, January 30 and 31, 2010, to accommodate those candidates that faced the glitches.
Announcing the changes, Mr. Soumitra Roy, Managing Director, Prometric, India said “The CAT 2010 program incorporates information from the comprehensive audit that was conducted post the CAT 2009 administration. The plan includes a longer testing window to provide candidates with more choices; a longer test site preparation period; improved technology for both registration and delivery; and a reduction in testing sites. The reduction in sites will not compromise the nationwide reach and availability of the test.”
Suggesting that CAT 2010 might be held earlier that last year, Mr. Roy said, “To avert potential overlaps in schedule with college exams, Prometric has recommended an earlier testing period. The final dates and details on registration and scheduling will be announced officially by the IIMs.”
IIMs are expected to release the CAT 2010 schedule soon. Speaking with MBAUnivese.com, Dr Devi Singh, Director, IIM Lucknow had said, “We will be releasing the CAT 2010 details early July.”
Earlier, Prometric has reviewed the processes and technology that were employed during the CAT 2009, including the protocols that ensured a successful administration during the final days of testing. Prometric has also reviewed the performance of the sites used during the CAT 2009, partners and, most importantly, candidate feedback.
Prometric Testing Private Limited (Prometric India) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prometric Inc. and has been present in India since 1997. Its operations span nine locations and employ over 200 people. In 2008, Prometric India delivered close to 600,000 exams through a network of more than 450 testing centers.
