Babies need a lot of clothes because they often get their clothes dirty or wet several times a day, and washing excessive loads of laundry each day is the last thing a new mother wants to do. Also, babies grow very fast, and they are constantly outgrowing the clothes they have.

When buying baby clothes for a gift, here are some things to keep in mind. First, talk to the mother about what colours of baby clothes she would like. A lot of people like to dress girls in pink and boys in blue, but some people prefer more creative colours. And if the mother-to-be doesn’t want to know what gender her baby is until it’s born, you may have to choose some neutral colours.

Another thing you should ask the mother is what styles of clothes she wants for her baby. Some mothers like very frilly, flowery dresses for baby girls, while others sporty outfits and designer jeans. Does the mother want her boy to be a country boy or a preppy little boy? Don’t purchase clothes based on your own taste or you may wind up with a gift that never gets used.

Avoid buying extremely small sizes. Some babies never get to wear the smallest sizes because they are larger when they are born. Also, you can really help out a mother-to-be by purchasing clothes in incremental sizes because babies grow very fast. Sometimes they don’t even get a chance to wear some of the baby clothes they are given.

This saves the mother having to spend a lot of money on baby clothes only a few months after the birth. Choosing clothes all the way up to a one-year-old size is not a bad idea.
