Outsourcing business services may be the only way some firms are able to survive the currency economic conditions.

According to figures released by the Insolvency Service, there were a total of 4,082 compulsory liquidations and creditors' voluntary liquidations in total in England and Wales in the first quarter of 2010 - on a seasonally adjusted basis.

This was a rise of more than 17 per cent on the same period a year ago, the organisation noted.

In order to keep going, some enterprises may have to reduce their overheads and one way in which they can do this is to use call answering and phone answering services.

This means customer enquiries can be dealt with in a professional manner without the need for in-house staff being on standby to deal with communications.

Using virtual office services such as this could be a life-line for firms.

According to some commentators, the UK's economy is heading for a double-dip recession as a result of the policies being implemented by the government in a bid to reduce the size of the deficit.

Rather than resorting to not answering customer enquiries due to a lack of funding, bosses may benefit from outsourcing the service to call answering and phone answering firms.

Commenting on the plight of small enterprises in particular, Bank of England governor Mervyn King recently said they are being starved of cash by lenders. He told a group of MPs that it was "heartbreaking" to see such problems, adding many businesses are going under because they cannot access the credit they require.

However, those companies that do emerge from the economic problems by using tactics such as outsourcing more of their services may be stronger and more streamlined as a result, meaning they will be able to cope with any further problems that arise in the future.
