Burton Driver X - The Rider's Boot - By: Tom Stevens

Those riders looking for a stiff boot that allows them full contact with their surroundings, can't go part the Burton Driver X. It is probably the most spoken about snowboard boot in the world, and has been since Burton released it a few years back. The company took the normally soft and comfy rider's boot and made it stiffer than ever, whilst still keeping the comfort levels intact. The stiffness in these boots will allow you to make super quick turns and go as fast as you can, without feeling wobbly. Even though they are stiff, it does not mean that they limit movement of the foot and ankle itself inside the boot. You will be able to stay warm in nearly any weather.

If you have some experience riding and you love to go fast and be in control, the Burton Driver X may be the right option for you. This boot may also suit a beginner that is finding that his or her boots are not providing enough support and they feel a disconnect between the board and the snow below them. Burton uses a fantastic lacing system on these boots called Speedzone which will allow you to tighten the up in a jiffy, and its durable construction means they will last you for years to come. Many people who has owned these boots for a few years rave about how they manage to keep their stabilising qualities, even after years of use. The downside of having a stiff boot is that it may require a few days of getting used to. Th Burton Driver X uses EVA moulded soles that are supposed to support your feet properly. The bottom sole has razor sharp spikes which gives you great grip on any surface.

People with very fragile and sensitive feet should steer clear of these boots. Burton rates the Driver X a 10/10 for support, which effectively mean they are the stiffest boot around. The stiffness of the boot translates the force of you body movement straight onto the ground and even the slightest movement of you body in the right direction will result in a turn. As mentioned previously, this is great if you have a bit of experience riding and you feel as if it takes to much effort to turn.

The faster you go on a snowboard, the less friction there will be between the board and the snow, hence the less in touch with the ground you will be. The less slack there is between your feet and the snow, through your boots, bindings and board, the less wobble there will be, and the more control you will have. If you desire to go fast, the combination of the Burton Driver X and a customised binding that keeps you nice and tight will be the ideal solution. It will allow you to turn sharply and controlled, even at high speeds.

In closing, the Burton Driver X is the perfect boot for those wanting to go fast and hard. We would recommend swapping the included EVA sole with a custom sole for an even greater feel. In addition, keep in mind that if the Speedzone lacing system breaks, it will have to be replaced in the shop. So, make sure you bring a spare pair of boots just in case.
