There are absolutely no complexities involved in building a wooden boat. It can be easily done at home when there are all requisite materials and tools in place. Following is a step by step guideline for completing this task.

Materials and tools
The first thing needed to be done is to select the design for the boat. There are countless sources from where good designs can be found like internet, books, magazines, movies and television. Materials and tools needed for building the boat depends upon the design. A simple boat will require the following materials.

- 4 pine boards having dimensions of 16’x1’’x10’’
- 2 spruce boards having measurements of 16’x2’’x4’’ and 2’x2’’x4’’ respectively
- 2 spruce boards sized 16’, 7/8’’x2’’ and 1/2'’x1/4’’ in girth respectively
- 1 more spruce board measuring 120’x3/4’’x6’’
- 2 pine boards 16’ measuring 7/8’’x10’’ in girth

Apart from these different kinds of lumber, outboard motor, 2 inch long wood nails, 4 feet long scrap board and metal sheet sized 11/4’’x10’’ are also needed. Tools like hammer, saw, chisel and heavy drill would be needed for building the wooden boat.

Procedure
The first part of the boat to be made is transom. For this, 16 feet long spruce board has to be used. With the help of the saw, cut the board in such a style that the top of the board is at least 8’’ shorter than the bottom. At the top, carve out a groove that is 2 inches deep and 4-inches long.

The keel should also be made from the 16 feet board. One end of the board has to be narrowed down so that the size of it is 6 inches in length and 1 inch in width. The other end should have a measurement of 15.5’’x1/2’’x4’’.

Another spruce board has to be used for making the stem. The board has to be placed in a height of 4’’. A groove has to be carved on the left side that is 1/4’’ long and 2’’ deep. Another groove has to be carved out on the right side that is 4’’ long and 2/16’’ deep. For the sides of the wooden boat, 16’ long planks should be used. A notch that is 1/2-inch deep and 1 1/2-inch wide has to be cut on each plank. Now, the two planks have to be fixed together with the help of nails.

Now when all the parts are ready, they have to be assembled together. First, the sides have to be attached to the stem, then the transom has to be fixed and lastly the bottom has to be fixed. Now the keel has to be attached to the stem, transom and bottom of the boat. Finally the outboard motor is to be fixed, sand and paint the wooden boat and it is ready.
