Building Your Own List Or Using Safelists -- That Is The Question - By: markmz7ole

A lot of people just don't seem to understand how essential it is to have a list of people to email. Having an email list to send your offers to daily or even every couple of days can make or break your Internet business. But the question is, do you need to build your own list or can you employ safelists.

I am going to go a bit deeper in this article on how email marketing must be carried out.

Safelists are the first thing we will discuss. This is a membership site made up of hundreds or even thousands of other Internet marketers. You can usually join for free. Everyone who registers for these sites automatically agree to allow other members to send them their emails. For the most part, each email you are sent will contain something known as a credit link that you must click on to earn credits, this is known as a credit based safelist. You then use these credits to email other folks in the safelist, and on and on.

Remember that the other members of the safelist are like you -- they want to email people and receive traffic but they don't wish to purchase something that another member is telling them about. Frankly, you can make money selling goods on safelists, but you're not going to make enough money there.

These safelists could be used for other forms of marketing which are worthwhile. Safelists are a terrific way to begin growing your own email list. Essentially, all you need to do is to bribe people with something of value that you give to them gratis and they share with you their email address. In no time at all you will have a list of your own you can email each time you want without clicking safelist links to get credits.

Which brings us to the question "Do I need my own list?" Yes you do, at least if you wish to be successful. Just about any thriving Internet marketer will tell you that each person on your own email list is worth about $1 per month. Now, I know what you're thinking, "One dollar, yay", but if you think about it this way 100 people equals $100 and 1,000 people equals $1,000 are you starting to understand how essential it is now?

Don't misunderstand me, you are not charging these people $1 per month for being on your list. The way it is works out is, when you have people on your list they are more likely to buy from you as long as you give quality, and you should be able to sell 1 product per month to every 1 person out of 50 who are on your mailing list. So, if you have 50 people on your list and you sell only 1 item worth $50 to a person on your mailing list in a month's time, that is how you get your average, and when you think about it, it's not that hard to do.

You can even send out a different offer to your mailing list each day. Plus, there is no limit to how large you can develop your email list. You can use various methods to develop your list too. Safelists are only one way to help you get going. One strategy which is extremely popular is just by adding a form on your site or blog so people can sign up for your free newsletter. You can take advantage of traffic exchanges and other no-cost programs to help you grow your list. In essence, the sky is the limit when it comes to growing your mailing list.

And so back to the original question on what type of list do you have to utilize, whether you should develop your own or make use of safelists. You should be utilizing safelists but only to the point where it is helping you grow your own mailing list.
