The Brazilian tourism sector is forecast to make 1.2m direct & indirect job opportunities in Brazil by the close of 2008. According to Minister of Tourism, Walfrido doe Mares Guia, 550,000 have been made from 2003 and another 300,000 by the end of 2008. The Brazilian government dedicated itself to financing and implementing the tourism road and rail network through the “Action Programme for the Integrated Development of Tourism” otherwise known as “PRODETUR”.

PRODETUR has intended that 8 airports have been constructed and built, existing motor way roads have been improved and furthered and historic sites have been conserved for the Brazilians and tourists alike. This has come at a cost, around $700 million and has helped to create several government bodies to oversee all these activities to take ownership of the tourism activities.

PRODETUR’s resounding victory, the “PRODETUR 2” has now been set in motion with an approximate investment of $400m.Following the success of the Government’s initiatives, Brazil tourism has risen from 4.1m (2003) to 6m (2006) overseas holiday makers per annum, whilst the income generated by these tourists has risen by 25%.

Brazil is the 6th most heavily populated country in the World after the US, Russia, India, Russia and Indonesia. 62% of Brazilians are under 29 years of age.. Brazil is seen as a future world super power.

According to the Brazilian Embassy, Brazil has the 10th largest economy in the world, with a GDP of 523,070 million dollars in 2003, almost 48% of Latin America’s Gross Domestic Product and one of the most prominent markets in the world with 200 million consumers.Leading financial experts consider that by the middle of this century, Brazil will have the second largest economy in the developing world and have the 4th largest economy worldwide. International Monetary Fund believes that Brazil has been erecting a good framework of fiscal responsibility that is now performing sustained primary surpluses and keeping inflation in order.
