Brake rotors - an important part of a braking system - By: Louie Liu

A vehicle has many parts and all of them have some use. Generally people are familiar with most of the parts but some are not so well known. Brake rotors may not be so well known but a vehicle owner cannot ignore them as they are crucial for safety. Brake rotors are a part of the braking system of a vehicle. When the driver presses the brake pedal the brake pads press upon the brake rotors. The friction between the brake pads and brake rotors causes the wheels of the vehicle to stop. After some use there may not be enough friction between their surfaces and the brakes may not function efficiently. Under these conditions it will be better to replace the brake rotor; even otherwise you can replace your existing brake rotors to upgrade your braking system. Aftermarket brake rotors are available in the market. Mainly there are two types of brake rotors – drilled brake rotors and slotted brake rotors. The friction between the brake pads and the brake rotors also creates some heat. The heat is not good for the stopping power of the brakes. So either holes are drilled in brake rotors or some slots are made to allow the heat to escape. Brake rotors are to be checked periodically to ascertain that they are in a proper working condition. Timely action has to be taken if any deficiency is found in their functioning, as any negligence in this regard may be the cause of a serious mishap.

While the brakes make a vehicle to stop, it is the steering wheel that makes it to move in the desired direction. Steering wheel is a part of the steering system. The driver manipulates the steering wheel and his inputs are carried by the steering system to the wheels of the vehicle. The message is carried through a mechanical device in some cases assisted by hydraulic power, or in some modern systems computer controlled motors are used. Safety in driving very much depends upon steering for which a properly functioning steering wheel is essential.
