Practice footwork is critically important and you can never succeed in boxing unless you have perfect footwork. Without footwork, your legs will get crossed up and you will lose your balance midway. Learn to move forward and back while jabbing and then to shift to either side.
It is necessary that you are in fit body shape to develop basic boxing skills. Shadow boxing will get your shoulders in shape. That way, you will be able to train longer and harder before fatigue sets in. Work hard on your abs and the lower back.
Sparring is an important component in boxing and you must understand the value of sparring sessions and attend them. Controlled sparring drills with a partner will make you into a much better fighter. Without sparring practice, you can never master defensive moves, distancing, and clinching.
