Getting over a breakup is not the easiest thing to do. You may be heart-broken and wish that you had never met your ex but it can go much smoother if you follow a few basic rules. A broken heart can be mended if you allow yourself the period of grief that comes after the breakup.

Normally after a break up there is a period of disbelief, then a helpless feeling which is followed by grief. The way you handle this time in your life is going to make a big difference. When you see that a broken heart does not last forever you will bounce back and begin to enjoy life once again.

The one thing that will help you more than anything in the world is realizing that you do not need your partner to make you happy in life. You need to learn to love yourself first. If you are happy on your own, a broken heart will heal itself. You cannot expect someone else to make you happy with yourself.

Suffering endlessly is one sign you should heed that how you feel about yourself is not the correct way. There will be suffering and you will have quite a few nights that you cry yourself to sleep but it should not go on forever. There comes a point and time when you have to pull yourself out of the way you are feeling and rejoin the universe once again.

Get out of your house, go to a movie (preferably a comedy), and join the human race once again. Go to the park and watch the children play. Feed the ducks. Do anything but sit and concentrate on how miserable you feel. This will go on forever if you do not make yourself snap out of it. If your depression is to the point of being crippling you may need to seek counseling. This can help you to work through your feelings so that you can get on with your life.

A broken heart is one of the most crippling feelings in the world. It is as if your world has come to an end. However, it has not and the need you have to hold on to this lost love is a side effect of the breakup. It will not last forever if you do not allow it.

A new relationship is waiting for you and it will be the right one this time. Do not be in a hurry to rush into it because this can cause problems. The first thing you need to concentrate on is getting over the broken heart you have now. Do this on your own without jumping into another relationship. The best thing to do is give you time. When the time is right you will know.
