As more Fosamax complaints are happening, things are not so doing well now with osteoporosis preventive medical drugs. As osteoporosis remains a big problem, people are now getting help from a New Year’s list of ways to fight osteoporosis.

There’s no doubt Fosamax is one of the most recommended drugs in the United States every year. This medication, along with other bisphosphonates, is the first line of treatment for osteoporosis which impacts more than 44 million Americans. Various aspects can lead to the development of this brittle bone disease and many prescription drugs are on the list.

Corticosteroids. Among the many drug, corticosteroids are highly known to make your bones thinner. There are several reasons why these drugs yield such side effect.

These drugs increase calcium excretion to the urine
They reduce calcium absorption in the gut
They prevent formation of new bone
They tend to lower the levels of estrogen and testosterone in the body

More than a quarter of all people taking corticosteroids for at least five years sustain osteoporosis-related fracture. Usually, your health care provider will add calcium and vitamin D supplements in your prescription if you need to take such drugs for a long period. Moreover, he or she may recommend you to take the drug every other day.

Vitamin A supplements. Too much intake of vitamin A could may boost bone resorption.

Heparin. It is a medication to prevent clot formation of blood in the veins, arteries and lungs. In spite of having no clear link, it has been found that longstanding heparin therapy, especially on higher dose can increase your likelihood to suffer osteoporosis.

Aside from those mentioned earlier, anti-HIV drugs, anti-seizure medication, chemotherapeutic drugs, and other pills that may decrease the production testosterone and estrogen.

This information may cause panic among its users. It is best to always you’re your doctor about the hazards of your medication. Osteoporosis is a disease that’s hard to deal with – and so are the said adverse effects of its treatment drug like Fosamax which is now facing a Fosamax class action lawsuit.
