Bogus health care crisis

By Jeff Mobley

Anyone who hopes to live more than another two years is rightfully concerned about the speeding, skimble-skamble freight train that is the latest effort of President Obama and the Democrats to socialize America.

Obama would have us believe that we are facing a health care crisis in America that demands immediate action and unquestioning acceptance of health care plans being contrived behind the closed doors of the most left wing Congress in American history. The urgency of the legislation, which runs thousands of pages, is solely driven by the need to force this plan down the throat of the American public before we know what is happing.

In fact, there is no real urgency. American health care is the envy of the modern world, and surveys show that 70 percent of Americans are satisfied with their existing plans. So, if ant broke, why spend a trillion dollars to fix it?

Liberals make much of the 46 million people (sometimes it is 39 million, sometimes 24 million) who do not have health care insurance. However, this is a bogus number invented by liberals to shame the American public into accepting massive changes. Just because millions are not covered by health insurance in no way means that these individuals do not receive healthcare.

Millions of those considered uninsured are already eligible for free (for them), government-provided healthcare. In addition, thousands of clinics throughout the country, such as olde towne medical center, Lackey free clinic, and Angles of Mercy medical clinic, provide healthcare based upon to pay. Also, there are millions who have made a decision not to purchase health insurance, even though it may be affordable, because they have different priorities in their lives.

There are many incremental improvements that can be made without the wholesale dismantling of the existing system.
For example, it is estimated that the government-run health plans, Medicare and Medicaid, lose more than 60 billion dollars each year because of misuse and fraud. It makes no sense to extend Medicare or Medicaid to provide coverage to more people until the government until can figure out how to manage these plans efficaciously.

Some economists claim that the medical malpractice (lottery) plaid by America’s tort bar costs our healthcare system well over a hundred billion dollars each year in unnecessary spending. The added costs of defensive medicine practice by Physicians’ medical malpractice insurance, and out-of-control jury awards and attorney fees are ultimately paid for by the tax payers.

Even Obama speaking of the meeting of the American medical association, acknowledged that is issue needs to be on the table, but he has no plans to make any actual changes regarding medical malpractice litigation. He wants to put limits on the earnings of greedy bankers, but will not considered a cap on the earnings of greedy malpractice lawyers.

The most outrageous provisions of the Obama care plans are those that specifically exempt members of Congress and federal employees from coverage under the same plan. The very people who are designing these plans, in secret, have no intention of changing their own gold – plated health insurance plans, which are paid for by the American tax payer. Obama has promised that under his health care plan Americans will be able to get the same of kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves. But, he is not telling the truth.

We should demand that are congressional representatives introduce (stand-alone) legislation in congress that requires any new healthcare plans mediate that members of congress and federal employees be enrolled in exactly in the same health insurance plans as are members of the general public.
