Body Stockings As a Kind of Fashion Wear - By: Ranju Kumar

There are several designer collections of body hosiery ranging from lace body tights, patterned bodytights, Lurex bodytight, and also leopard bodytights. What is required to you is to select the color and size of your choice. Stocking dates back to early significant advancement that was made, not in manufacturing technology alone but also in textile design. For example this advancement has been seen during the 2nd World War whereby silk was replaced by nylon as parachute material. This collection was through the innovation in textile design from the use of natural materials to synthetic fibers and the outcome that had on design. These stocking provided an overview into social, fashion and in some cases cultural customs of the diverse periods being represented.

Advancement in technology was seen during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I whereby the first stocking machine was invented by somebody called William Lee in the province of Nottingham, England in the late 16th century. In the 1600s most of the stockings were hand-knitted but between 1650 and 1750, there was the introduction of the stocking frame. However the early machines were clumsy, expensive to operate and produce less finished products but by 1760s there were a lot of improvements to the original design which resulted in the manufacture of machine-made lace and a finer fabric.

By mid 1800s, technological improvements saw a great deal of output at a cheaper price thus making the machine-made stocking more affordable for a mass market. By the 1880s, there was the introduction of a fully automatic machine which manufactured the stocking as a complete tube with the heel and stocking feet.

There were no improvements in terms of color and decoration until the 17th century whereby the stocking were made more decorated. Not many people during those days were use to wearing body stockings as most men and women wore shoes instead of boots and clock seam. It was during this period whereby decorated clocks became more fashionable. Stocking colors were more influenced by the social settings of the time. In the 1730s, there was the shift in fashion whereby people shifted to wearing white-colored stockings. Initially, stockings were made of wool, linen or cotton.

The most desirable during that period was the stocking made from silk but was more expensive and many people could not afford it. Nylon, originally known as polymer 6.6 was invented by DuPont in the 1930s which replaced silk as it was cheaper a compared to silk. Today, several stocking collection have diamond shaped holes in the welting and are cheap.
