Having acne anywhere on your skin is bad enough, but how embarrassing is butt acne! Not that your butt is hanging out there like your face, but still.

As you likely know, acne is common in people of all ages, and generally appears on your face, back, neck, shoulders and chest. And yes, many people even find themselves breaking out on their butts. Many people refer to this butt acne as butt-ne.

If you have body acne anywhere, don't be surprised when it shows up on your ass. However, it can be a sign of severe problems, sometimes with large and painful pimples. Try sitting on that. But take heart. There are treatments available for your condition.

Let's make a few things clear. One thing you should know is that butt acne is, for the most part, caused by the same factors as any type of body acne. Face, back, whatever. Sometimes it's because of an overactive production of oil from the sebaceous glands, which attaches itself to hair follicles and then produces sebum, the substance that forms the pimple. Having said that, there are a few studies that claim you may get skin acne on your butt when naturally occurring skin bacteria multiply at an abnormally fast rate and clog your follicles. There is also a chance the acne on your butt is because of dead skin cells shedding at a quicker than normal rate, and thereby causing severe skin irritation.

Now that you know that this form of skin acne is caused by the same factors as any sort of body acne, it stands to reason that treatments will be much the same as well. However, before opting for any one form of treatment, try to ascertain what irritant is causing the problem. Perhaps it's your clothing that's aggravating the skin. Why not try changing your laundry detergent and see if the problem gets any better?

If you have already been down this road and tried a variety of treatments, but none worked, then maybe it's time to talk to your doctor. Perhaps s/he will be able to help identify the cause of your acne. This is especially necessary if your problem is severe, with large and painful pimples. Or maybe you just need to wash a little better, making sure to remove the dead skin cells and dirt particles that work together to develop and form your acne.
