Because bird flu is a threat for birds, humans and even for global economy, specialists worked to develop an efficient vaccine for this problem.

It is believed that an experimental vaccine might be effective against a strain of flu virus. This should men that the experts can not fear any more for a flu pandemic. it seems that the developed vaccine is effective and as specialists say it will work as a powerful weapon against the easily spread virus.

Tests proved that two doses of the vaccine produced an immune system response that was able to neutralize the virus. The test was done on 113 subjects that have all developed the same reaction.

Another study that was done over 452 adults, all tested with four dosages of this experimental vaccine leaded to promising results. Even if the tests have positive results many specialists agree that further testing has to be done.

Many doctors believe that the development of the new vaccine is a positive result. They are happy to hear about the first vaccine that proved to be effective in bird flu.

While doctors seem to be satisfied with their results, public health authorities are concerned about the virus called H5N1 which is spreading among the birds from Asia, Russia and even Europe. The number of infected humans also alerts the authorities. It is known that the bird flu virus called H5N1 was infecting in the last period more than 100 humans. The mortality rate for the persons that develop this infection is higher than 50 %. If the virus will mutate and if it will develop the possibility of spreading easily among people, the risk for a global pandemic is higher. This risk frightens the specialists especially because they remember about the flu pandemic in 1918, when more than 40 million people have died. That pandemic caused much more human loss than the First World War.

In order to prevent the spreading of the disease millions of birds throughout Asia have been slaughtered.

Further testing will be necessary in order to determine exactly how the vaccine could be used and how can the production cover the needs in case of a pandemic.

Many specialists agreed that the development of this vaccine is a step forward. They also proved that two dosages of the vaccine will be able to help, developing an immune system that can work against the bird flu virus.

Even if a vaccine is developed, specialists agree that the world is not ready for a flu pandemic.
