Big Buck Hunting Tips - By: Ernest Morrow

We talked to my daughter about 4 spots we're able to go to that were arrange for two people. I told him at least one we should probably figure was too much away on other side of road for any time we had to hunt - it might take us too long to walk over there - to make sure that left us with 3 solutions on our side in the road. He thought much more go to one of our back corners and indicated the SW corner. We told him I agreed we should go to one in our corners but due to help wind direction I thought the other corner - the SE corner might be better - so we agreed to attend the SE corner.

  • Give your kids something to do although hunting - preferably make them the main hunt.

I then put my son in control of calling. Before we went out I had let him choose between just the estrus bleat can or the main rattling sequence. He thought we would go with just this estrus bleat can. (Experienced I been alone I would have chosen rattling as a result of bucks hearing it from longer distance - timing was befitting EITHER calling approach so i yielded to his choice.)

  • Modify tactics to fix shorter hunt.

Since we got on stay with so little track down time left I explained to my son that people probably shouldn't wait the normal 20-30 minutes before calling - instead we would wait about 5 a matter of minutes. (We had done our best to sneak in - move slightly - stop and observe slightly - move a bit of - so we sounded like deer rather then humans moving through the woods.)

  • Mentor your sons or daughters throughout the deer track down with "woods wisdom" you might have learned.

Since our five minute wait was about to expire I heard a squirrel scolding something well to the south of us. I explained to my son that we couldn't tell what which squirrel was upset about nevertheless it was most likely something moving through the woods South of people. It could be an additional human hunter, somebody's kitten, a fox or coyote, or perhaps a deer, maybe even a buck. I told him I thought much more start calling right then should that squirrel was scolding some sort of buck we couldn't discover. I then coached him as to when to call - the length of time to wait before calling again - and whether to do a single bleat or a few bleats in a row. He did a good job painting the sound picture of an estrus doe waiting in close proximity to a scrape (a mock scrape using a scent dripper over the idea) and calling to get a buck. Sunshine was fading fast when he let out his last two bleats. Within seconds of people last two bleats As i spotted a deer planning North off property we can't hunt. I told my daughter "We've got one coming - it's a buck - it's a sexy buck. " I failed to get into position to take some sort of crossbow shot when he hit the first shooting lane on our property but I acquired into position to take a shot as he flushed off our farm onto another farm we now have permission to hunt.
