Sales assistants are a vital part of a company’s sales department. They offer the sales team the support they need to be able to present the products or services they offer properly and to do all the administrative and organizational tasks in the office. Those interested in this line of work should know what the responsibilities are and they must also possess certain qualities can make them excellent candidates for the position.

Job Description

Sales assistants often work behind the scenes and does all of the paper work for the team. Aside from helping the members of the sales force with their presentations and marketing materials, they also make travel arrangements for them and write up their expense reports. They help keep the office organized by arranging her team’s schedules and making sure that they are able to keep their appointments. Customer service is also a huge part of this job. They are often the bridge between clients and the salespeople and when the team is out on business trips, they handle phone inquiries and email correspondences with the clients. When their team participates in trade shows, they are usually the ones who make the arrangements and make sure that the team has everything they need from displays to product samples.

Qualities of a Good Sales Assistant

Good sales assistants are great at multi-tasking. They need to handle and balance doing different tasks for the team and be efficient with everything they do. Good public relations skills are a big plus. Even though they do mostly administrative work, they need to be able to deal with customers on the phone, in person, or by email. They spend most of their time in front of the computer, so knowledge of spreadsheet programs and database applications are important. In cases where the team is not available, they should be able to step up and answer questions asked by the clients in a timely manner. Flexibility is also very important in this line of work. There may be some unforeseen circumstances that come up and they must be able to think on their feet and adjust accordingly. In these cases, the ability to handle stressful situations well can prove to be very useful in making sure everything remains in order.

Most people don’t realize how important it is to have someone do all these things for the sales force. This helps the salespeople concentrate on what they have to do to get the sale rather than worry about the paperwork and other administrative tasks. This is why every company needs great and efficient sales assistants in their team.
